Shanghai Tax Launches Departure Refund Map and Multilingual E-Guide, Upgrading Online Self-Service

Starting July 1, Shanghai's tax authorities rolled out two new departure tax refund services: a service map and a policy and operation e-guide, upgrading the system from offline guides to online self-service. The map marks buy-and-refund points, centralized refund points and participating merchants, while the e-guide is embedded in the "pocket service" platform with support for 14 languages and content covering policy Q&A, procedures, FAQs and hotlines. From January to June, the city's departure tax refund sales rose 63.2% year on year, with buy-and-refund sales up 2.9 times.

Starting July 1, Shanghai's tax authorities launched two new departure tax refund measures: the Shanghai Departure Tax Refund Service Map and the Policy and Operation Guide e-book, upgrading the refund service system from offline guides to online self-service. The map, distributed free at Pudong and Hongqiao airports and key business districts, marks buy-and-refund points, centralized refund points and participating merchants, addressing travelers' difficulty in locating channels. The e-book, embedded in the refund "pocket service" platform, supports 14 languages and systematically gathers policy Q&A, procedures, FAQs and hotlines, breaking language and information barriers with round-the-clock mobile access. In the first half of the year the city's departure tax refund sales rose 63.2% year on year, with buy-and-refund sales up 2.9 times; over 500 new refund stores opened, bringing the total past 2,400.
