The Hanjiang district tax bureau has moved its services online, building a full-function cloud tax hall built around an interactive service centre. Company staff no longer need to visit the hall: one remote connection is enough to get answers and get things done. Not long ago a local firm had to prepay tax on business in another province; after verifying the details, the desk opened a three-way connection with the other province's service centre and guided the whole process remotely, from application to payment in under half an hour. Staff are divided into general seats for high-frequency standard work, expert seats for difficult issues, quality inspectors and a request coordinator. The bureau also listed 70 core services in a catalogue updated monthly, so answers change as soon as policy does. This year the channel has taken more than 36,000 consultations and requests, walk-in queue numbers are down about 80 percent year on year, and there have been nearly 3,000 cross-region interactions, more than 500 of them across provinces.
