Nanjing taps AI to streamline tax handling for bankrupt enterprises

Nanjing's tax authority has built a court-tax coordination and data-driven mechanism to handle tax issues of bankrupt enterprises, moving from reactive handling to proactive governance. District bureaus now use AI assistants to auto-generate and cross-check tax claim verification reports, and AI-based retrieval to scan bankruptcy and judicial auction announcements. Linked analysis across tax types also helps spot missed filings, which the bureau follows up with on-site guidance.

Dealing with bankrupt companies has long been messy for tax authorities: announcements come late, accounting books go missing and asset disposals are opaque. Nanjing's tax bureau has set up a new mechanism with the city's intermediate people's court that clarifies the rules for filing tax claims, tax deregistration and information sharing, with clear city- and district-level responsibilities. On the technology side, the economic and technological development zone bureau uses an AI assistant to automatically generate and then cross-check tax claim verification reports, while the Qixia district bureau uses AI to scan bankruptcy acceptance notices, asset disposal announcements and judicial auction information so that new cases or auctions are verified promptly. With information flowing, the bureau also analyses across tax types: checking one industrial company, data comparison showed rental income subject to VAT but no matching property tax filing, which staff followed up with on-site guidance until the declaration was completed.
