Exhibitors such as inspection-robot maker Kekaida, cooking-robot firm Aican and coffee-robot company Kuku described their growth on the AI track and credited policies such as the R&D expense super-deduction with helping them survive the toughest early years. The 21st China International SME Fair opened in Guangzhou in September with the theme of empowering small and medium-sized enterprises through artificial intelligence, and several Guangdong exhibitors shared their stories with reporters. Kekaida, which builds inspection robots for overhead transmission lines, said it was founded in 2014 but only shipped its first mass-produced product in 2019; during those lean years the R&D expense super-deduction eased its cash pressure, and the firm later won approval as a supplier to State Grid and other power system buyers. Cooking-robot maker Aican returned for a second time with its Weiba series, which uses AI and precision machinery to mimic a chef's techniques, and has extended compliance management into procurement, manufacturing and invoicing. Coffee-robot company Kuku has cut the price of a basic unit to about 100,000 yuan with fully domestic core parts, drawing interest from overseas buyers, while Pony.ai brought its autonomous driving solutions abroad. Noting that these startups are asset-light and R&D-heavy, Guangdong tax authorities both delivered R&D expense deductions and small-business income tax breaks and stepped in early on complex matters such as indirect offshore equity transfers, providing advance tax rulings that turn tax certainty into a safety cushion for going global. As one company put it, technology is the core competitiveness, but compliance capability determines how far a firm can go.
