Tax Support Helps Build a Large Model for Weld Inspection

Precise Machinery, based in Tai'an, Shandong, has put a large AI model to work on industrial weld inspection. More than 200,000 weld photos were shot, labeled by experienced inspectors and fed into a model co-developed with Northwestern Polytechnical University, with quarterly sample additions and algorithm iterations. Workers now photograph welds and upload them to the cloud, where the model judges quality online with 85 percent accuracy, above manual inspection, replacing about 70 percent of on-site checks. The Taishan district tax office assigned the company a dedicated tax steward to map the tax issues across university-enterprise R&D and smart-equipment projects; since 2025 the firm has claimed over 15 million yuan in additional R&D deductions and 2.3 million yuan in other innovation-related tax relief. Tax officials also helped standardize R&D auxiliary ledgers, cross-project cost allocation and supporting documentation. The company now holds Tai'an's first data-asset registration certificate for a private enterprise.

Precise Machinery in Tai'an, Shandong, has put a large model to work checking welds. The method is crude but effective: more than 200,000 weld photos were taken, graded one by one by veteran inspectors and fed into a model built with Northwestern Polytechnical University, with new samples and algorithm tweaks every quarter. Today a worker photographs a weld and uploads it to the cloud, and the model judges it on its own with 85 percent accuracy, slightly better than manual checks, while on-site trips have fallen by about 70 percent. The local tax office gave the company a dedicated tax steward to sort out the tax issues in its university-joint R&D and smart-equipment projects. Since 2025 the firm has claimed more than 15 million yuan in extra R&D deductions and 2.3 million yuan in other innovation-related relief. Tax officials also helped standardize the R&D auxiliary ledger, cross-project cost allocation and record keeping, and the company obtained Tai'an's first data-asset registration certificate for a private firm.
